Have you ever considered telling your story? This has been proven to have incredible value not only for the emotional, self-healing of the writer, but also for the recovery of others who have gone through similar experiences. Please join us on Friday, May 31, 2019 from 12:00pm - 1:00pm, as STEPS graduate, Simon Barton, shares his story on the benefits and challenges of writing about his stroke recovery.
Access | Empower | Participate | Educate | Mentor
Next STEP is an educational, topic driven, peer community meeting designed to educate and empower individuals with disabilities to take the next step in their recovery. Topics range from solving the everyday problems and challenges of living with a disability, to accessing resources and information in order to maximize life participation in every sense of the word.
Peer mentoring is an integral part of this group as we learn best from those who have been there before us. While we will sometimes have speakers from the community, many of our sessions will feature presentations and experiences from members of the group so that we may learn from one another.
We recognize that the major life changes that go along with acquired disabilities affect not just the individual, but all members of the family and social network. While the focus of the group is on the recovering individual, we welcome family, friends and other support team members to join the conversation.
We would like to invite you to join us for Next STEP on Friday January 25, 2019 from 12:00pm - 1:00pm when we will be discussing the Topic of, “ Life After Therapy”.
This will be an open panel discussion led by individuals who have “graduated” from our outpatient therapy and have moved on to live life, work, and pursue leisure activities. Our hope is to share and inspire those who are still early in their recovery by answering some of the following questions:
How have you adjusted to life after injury?
What was the key to you success?
What were some of your biggest obstacles along the way?
How did you know when it was time to take a “break” from therapy?
Do you have any advice on how to reintegrate into work, community and leisure activities after injury?
Whether you are just beginning your journey of recovery or have been on this path for years, please join us, share your story and bring your questions. We can all help encourage one another as we strive to fully recovery and resume our life roles.
Caregivers and family are welcome, as you are vital team members as we pursue this "road to success.”
If you would like would be one of our panel members, leading this discussion, please contact Bryn Kennedy at firstname.lastname@example.org
